Toddlerhood: Mom's Black-Hole of Time

It seems like I hardly have a chance to blog anymore. Dexter is a flurry of activity now, so I have to keep an eye on him. My nights are spent getting a little quiet time with the husband, catching up on current events and pop culture. Mr. Cobra does have band practice every week, so that's my blogging time. I can't seem to catch up with my other mom friends because work, gym, errands and naptimes are hard to schedule around.

We did skip the gym last weekend on Sunday, but it was great to get some energy back. We have been so exhausted from dieting, working out and having not so great sleep patterns thanks to Dexter. Speaking of dieting, I weighed today. I've lost 14 lbs so far. Nutrisystem is really working for me. Mr. Cobra has also lost 13.5 lbs. He only has a few pounds left before he makes his goal. We have just started month 2. I have to say it's super easy now. I am still occasionally ravenous, but after the first couple weeks it just got easier. It's actually cheaper than eating out and everything is super quick and easy to prepare. Some stuff tastes exactly how you imagine diet food to taste. On our second month, we've narrowed down our food choices to what we like. I feel a little bad about ingesting all the preservatives and artificial sweeteners, but it's temporary. Besides, that's probably the lesser evil of being so overweight at my age. It's nice to feel my clothes fitting looser already. I'm a pound away from my first reward - getting my hair straightened! Now I have to plan for reward #2… a tattoo perhaps?

Thankfully, Dexter is just now getting back to his normal, happy self after 2 weeks of toddler torture. I'm pretty sure he had a minor ear infection. He was just so irritable. I decided to try some earache drops since he was at the very tail end of his cold. Sure enough, his mood changed drastically. I got some homeopathic earache drops and after 2 days, he was over it. I can't express in words how relieved I am to know that Dexter didn't just turn into a screaming monster.

Halloween is coming up fast and we are gonna go trick-or-treating and a neighborhood festival. I wanted to have a Halloween party, but I can't seem to get my stuff together. Next year, we will do it. Our previous attempt at having a pumpkin-carving party a couple years ago failed miserably, but kids are more easily amused. I am, of course, more focused on Dexter's experience, than the fact it will be our 2nd wedding anniversary. I think our anniversary will just have to take a backseat for the next 10 years. We celebrate more on our "dating" anniversary anyhow because we've celebrated that day for several years already.

A cute thing happened the other day when I was getting ready for work. I had grabbed my shoes from the closet and put them on the bed while I was putting on my socks. Dexter grabbed the shoe and said "shoe". I said "Yes that IS a shoe!" He said "shu" and put the gigantic (to him) shoe on the floor and put his foot in it. He then proceeded to walk by sliding the gigantic shoe forward and taking a step with the other foot, then sliding the gigantic shoe forward and taking a step with the other foot. He walked about 5 feet that way before his foot finally came out of the shoe. He tried putting it back on, but somehow it turned around so that the shoe was pointing backward. He still walked a couple more feet in it though. That was one of the funniest things I've seen.

This week "uh-oh" has been replaced by "bye-bye". Our favorite thing - "What does a tiger say?" Dexter replies with a growly "roar". Ok enough ramblings for today…
