Last Sunday, we went to the half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival. It was a little cold, so I don't think it was as crowded as it normally would have been. It was still very crowded though. Dexter only wanted to be carried even though we had his stroller, so his daddy carried him while I tried to navigate the crowds with a stroller. Talk about frustrating! Somehow, having a stroller is akin to driving a car in that you can never go fast enough and everyone cuts you off. It was so frustrating, that I folded up the stroller and carried it over my shoulder. People en masse are ridiculously rude and self-centered. Thankfully, Dexter wasn't in the stroller or else I would've been furious rather than just annoyed. Otherwise, it was a nice afternoon to get out of the city and see something new.
The biggest attraction was the huge 1,524 lb pumpkin. We got our picture taken with it. We're just little blips, compared to the pumpkin, but we figure it might be the start of a Halloween tradition to have our pictures taken with the big pumpkin every year. Half Moon Bay has had the pumpkin festival for more than 30 years, so I'm pretty sure it will continue!
Dexter made his first crayola scribbles today. They were big, bold, multi-colored and covered the piece of paper. I thought it looked pretty good for a 14 month old. His creation has been tacked up on our refrigerator as a piece of history right next to our photo of the giant pumpkin.
We are going to get a pumpkin this weekend at the giant pumpkin patch nearby. We're waiting until the last minute, so we can carve up a nice fresh jack-o-lantern. This weekend is also the Halloween Hootenanny near Haight Street for the neighborhood kiddies. I'm hoping to finally get together with the other neighborhood moms. Dexter has his costume all ready to go. This will be a good warm-up to the grand finale of Belvedere Street on Halloween proper. I can't wait!
