Valentine's Day was a blast. Mike and I drank champagne, wine, ate steak and had an uninterrupted conversation without the stress of "is he going to be waking up soon" whenever we get any sort of similar experience. Of course, we mostly talked about Dexter no matter how hard we tried to steer the conversation away from him. We had planned for the nanny to look after him until 8pm, but we came home early to see baby boy off to bed. After talking about him for a couple hours, we just couldn't let him go to sleep without us.
Friday, I didn't make it to the parent's group. Dexter decided to nap through the entire thing. I was bummed to not be able to go. We did, however make it to the gym finally. I was doing really well before the holidays and then got back and did well again until Dex and I both got sick for 2 weeks. Last week I was lazy. When I got on the elliptical machine, I was back to square one. Ugh! The battle of the bulge is in full effect again. Breastfeeding has my appetite on a crazy binge cycle that I can't seem to stop no matter how hard I try. I know I need to eat a little extra - I've read that it's up to 500 extra calories a day, practically a full meal. I'm also carrying around a 16lb weight for hours everyday, so if I just put a little bit extra into exercising and making sure to get at least 30 minutes in a day then I should be golden to shed some of this post-baby flab. I just want to get back to down to where I started 35lbs ago.
On Saturday, we got out of SF for a day trip and went to Sonoma. We visited there a couple years ago to go to a Halloween crafts fair. It's a nice little city to visit in wine country that was founded by the Spanish when they were building Missions all over California. True to the Mission-style, the heart of downtown, is a small, square park surrounded by little shops on all 4 sides. The Mission is still there and open to the public. The Spanish knew how to make great little downtowns.
It took us 3 hours to go one block. I'm not exactly sure why it took so long. I'm bet it had something to do with baby maintenance - eating a couple times and he had a poop geyser that required both parents to do diaper surgery with a complete outfit change, and some shopping. I wore him in the Bjorn and he charmed so many people with his 2-toothed smile. He just loves people. He was so excited to be out and about. He was wiggling up and down, waving his hands and making noise. It was a lot of fun. After a few hours, he had one meltdown because he was tired and couldn't get to sleep in the Bjorn. I eventually caved and gave him his pacifier and he snoozed for an hour. We made it the other 3 blocks to complete the plaza circle by the time he woke up again.
Dexter was so happy to be home and not cooped up in a car seat or the Bjorn that he played on his tummy for an hour BY HIMSELF! He'd had enough of mommy and daddy!
