I have been having so much trouble with my hands lately that I decided to go up on my prednisone to 3mg. I talked to my doctor last week about it and she said that was ok, but wanted to see if it affected my blood sugar. I went into the appointment today fasting for a blood glucose test. I brought some breakfast to eat afterwards, and then I'd wait an hour and test my blood sugar again. My fasting rate was 84 which is good. I ate a bagel with cream cheese because it was the only thing I could think of to bring that was a meal. That was a giant carb-laden mistake! An hour later and my sugar was still high - 154. Either it could be the carb crazy meal or I am diabetic, or it could just be that I just went up on my medicine. Now I am meeting with a nutritionist on Wednesday to get a glucose monitor and talk about my diet. I'm gonna test it over the remainder of the week and see whether or not I really am having any problems. I'm just going to go back to 2mg of prednisone. I don't want to worry about any complications from gestational diabetes. It really isn't helping much anyways.
My husband joined me once again for the weekly ultrasound and heart rate monitoring. Our little boy put on a show for his daddy again and showed us his little face, hands and feet moving all at once. He's curled up so tightly! There just isn't much room left.
So even though the baby was being cute for us, he was a bit sleepy. I think it's because I hadn't had anything to eat before they started monitoring me. I ate while they monitored the heart rate. I don't think it had enough time to wake him up. They used the noise maker and that woke him up a bit. He was having some odd drops in his heart rate. He had several of them, which can be caused by umbilical cord compression. They sent me to Labor & Delivery at the hospital to be monitored for another 45 minutes. Luckily, he perked up and his heart rate was showing good ups and downs. It went down too far a couple times, but only for a beat or two and then shoot right back up. He was so active, the doctor laughed when she came in and wasn't worried at all. I'm going in again on Wednesday for another antenatal appointment to make sure the problem isn't continuing. I'll being doing my kick counts religiously the next couple days.
