We are in the midst of a search for a larger apartment. We will have to save for a couple more years to afford a decent down payment, so we've decided to rent a little bit longer. I hate renting because it's such a waste of money, but we're stuck between an unpredictable economy and an almost 2 year old sleeping in our bedroom waking us up nightly. We all need some space away from each other. Luckily, there are some decent deals out there on apartments these days. A year ago we would've had to double our rent to get another bedroom, but now it's about a third more for a decent 2 bedroom. I'd say that's a pretty significant drop in price.
Dexter is so awesome. We've been teaching him manners and so he says please and thank you. He even said "bless you" when Squee sneezed the other day—LOL! He's been reciting his numbers and can count to 6. He visually will point out two objects and count them one, two. I don't know where he picks up this stuff, but once he expresses interest I try and teach him more. Every day he does something that amazes me.
He's such a little boy even though if you ask him, he'd say he's a baby. We've started to have conversations about what he's seen or done. I took him to the zoo on Friday, so during dinner that night I asked him what he saw. He named off the animals he saw and anything else that came to mind. It's fun to watch the little gears turn as he tries to remember.
We had fun at the zoo. He didn't have any major tantrums. He was so good that I promised him ice cream before we left. He's so sharp, as we were leaving he reminded me. We saw a sign that had a picture of an ice cream cone and he said "Mommy, ice cream?" I'd completely forgotten. My jaw dropped a little. I'm not going to be able to selectively remember anymore without getting called out on it.
We went to our friends' wedding on Saturday. Dexter had come down with a fever before we left. I gave him Tylenol, but it was still 100 under the arm. Our nanny came to look after him while we went to the wedding. We weren't able to stay long because the fever kept climbing. He even fell asleep for bit. That's so not Dexter. He'd just been at the petting zoo the day before, so that made me especially nervous. We decided to leave the wedding and take care of the little guy in case he needed to go to the doctor.
After we came home he perked up quite a bit, but I had to hold him a lot. He was so clingy and irritable. I thought it was a virus since that's usually what happens—high fever out of nowhere. Today, I wonder if it could be his second year molars troubling him again since he's drooling and chewing on everything. He had some rough patches today. The trying kind where there he was inconsolable and everything was wrong. "No sit, no lap, no down". Poor little guy feels bad, but man it makes me want to rip my hair out when it goes on and on for hours. Those damn teeth just need to come through and quit the torture.
Anyhow, Breaking Bad on AMC is starting…
