Seriously his mouth exploded this month. Dexter had 4 tiny, toothy nubs break through his gums in the past week to make it 5 teeth total this month. Admittedly, I haven't checked his teeth in a while, but I can see them now. I'm afraid to stick a finger in his mouth now. I try and get him to say "hat". He gets stuck on the "h", so it gives me a few seconds to get a quick look. Its no wonder he's been a crabby baby at times.
Of course there was a big announcement this week regarding Paracetamol aka Children's Tylenol:
"Researchers found that paracetamol use for fever in first year of life was associated with a 46 per cent increased risk of asthma in children aged between six and seven years.
Current use of paracetamol was associated with a dose-dependent risk of asthma symptoms with medium use increasing risk by 61 per cent and high-dose increasing risk by over three times, reports a journal. "
What is a high dose? That's more than once a MONTH. Most moms I know have gone through at least a couple bottles in the first year. Somehow that's not cause for concern, but we need to vaccinate our kids like crazy against non-lethal or practically extinct diseases though.
Another interesting thing I've read recently regarding children and SIDS:
"Preliminary research also suggests that babies who begin daycare before 4 months of age may be at increased risk as well. In the most recent AAP analysis, about 20 percent of all SIDS deaths occurred while the baby was in the care of someone other than a parent. One third of the infants died during the first week of childcare, and half those deaths occurred on the very first day."
Seriously 20% happen when the mom leaves the baby in someone else's care and there's no warnings anywhere regarding that? That alone should make us think twice about the lack of paid maternity leave in the U.S.
