I decided that Dexter should eat solids 3 times a day now that I'm working more. He has been the biggest pig, eating twice as much at every sitting as he used to. He used to eat half a jar of 2 different foods to equal 1 full jar of food. Lately, he's been eating half of 4 different foods to equal almost 2 jars! He does that twice a day and then his evening meal is generally a mix of jar, cereal and/or cut up bits of things I'm eating.
I knew going in that this would cause my arthritis to flare up. I set up a doctor's appointment ahead of time and got some prescriptions to help provide some relief. I forgot how bad it was. I'm not bed ridden. It could be 100 times worse, but just being in pain all over and tired no matter how much I sleep, just isn't a pleasant way to live life. Unfortunately, to get total relief, I have to wean Dexter. The best medicine for me isn't compatible with breastfeeding. I'm taking another, more breastfeeding friendly medicine until I can get Dexter totally weaned. I figure that will take about 3-4 weeks.
Currently, he's only nursing 3-5 times a day, so I'm hoping that it won't be too hard to replace those few times with formula. I have to do it slowly, replacing one feeding per week with formula, so that we both can adjust to the change. It's better to do it slowly rather than abruptly, so my milk supply has time to adjust. I'll put up with the pain in the interim, so that it doesn't distress Dexter too much.
I haven't been able to post much lately. Dexter has been all consuming. I've also been going to bed early, since I'm working 32 hours a week and need all the energy I can get. It's been deadline after deadline because we are busy. I practically feel like a normal adult until I hear baby squeals of delight when I walk in the door at home.
