Serendipity

I haven't had any luck finding any neighborhood moms or groups. I've found other neighborhood groups that I wasn't able to go to because I'd have to drive and Mike was using the car to get to work, or, now that I can drive, I'm back at work and they meet when I can't go. I think I would've had an easier time dealing with the isolation I felt a few months ago if I'd found some other new moms to hang out with, but it never happened. I gave up and that's when serendipity decided to step in.

A couple weeks ago, Mike and I were putting Dexter in the car to run errands. An older couple walked by and commented on Dexter. They said he looked remarkably like their grandson. We talked to them for a bit. They were just going to visit him, gift in hand, and he lived nearby. To top it off, their grandson was only a couple weeks younger than Dexter. They were very nice, so we gave them one of our business cards for their daughter/daughter-in-law to contact us. I never expected to hear from her. That's jsut seems to be the way things are, but this time I got an email the next day with a picture of her little boy and the couple we'd just met.

It truly freaked me out. Her son looks a lot like Dexter. To top it off, he was wearing the exact same pajamas Dexter had. Even Mr. Cobra, was a little taken aback by the similarity. I know that a lot of babies look similar, but this picture was just so surreal. I know he's my own kid, but Dexter is a very cute baby. This baby was just as cute as Dexter!

I emailed her back and she invited me to the parent's group - yeah the local one. Well I couldn't go and meet her because we got colds and it rained. It took me a couple of weeks, but I was determined to meet this other mom. We finally met and our babies met. They are so similar looking - even in real life. Her son is a little bigger than Dexter, cute and pudgy. We sat them on the table across from each other and they kept pawing each other and stealing each other's toys. Dexter was particularly curious about his new friend's feet. He kept grabbing the other babie's shoes. It was really fun to see them together. Dexter hadn't ever played with any other babies his age. He's still a little young to truly "play" but they were really checking each other out. At one point, they even made the same sound. It was hilarious. I took a picture, but I haven't asked yet to post it. (I will, but I want to get a better photo).

She was very nice and we seemed to hit it off pretty well. We have similar backgrounds and work in roughly the same industry and are from the Midwest. We live just 2 blocks away from each other. How crazy is that? It's not as crazy as the next story I'm going to tell, but just about. Stay tuned for more odd coincidences…
