We went to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park on Sunday to see a great band by the name of The Sadies. We walked to the concert and back which was about 3.5 miles. It was the longest walk I've done in almost a year. It's hard to believe I was going to the gym this time last year to lose a couple pounds for our wedding. Then, I could walk/jog the entire park and back which is 7 miles. This walk wasn't so bad, but it wore me out. I didn't know for sure if I could make it, but I did! I'm realizing that it just might be time to go back to the gym and start working out again. I just need to get some good gym shoes. My feet have outgrown all of my previous pairs of shoes. I'm bummed all my favorite shoes are too small and happy that I will get to replace them all with new stylish shoes.
Okay back to the concert (like this blog is about me). We walked there through the park. It was Sunday, so JFK Drive was closed. It is so incredibly nice to walk through the park when that road is closed. There are so many people out enjoying the weather on their bikes, walking, jogging and playing. It's an urban utopia. Dex slept about half the walk and then woke up cranky. Mr. Cobra started swerving the stroller like he was a drunk driver and Dex loved it. As soon as the stroller started going straight again, he got upset. The joggers were dodging the pseudo drunken stroller driver. It was quite entertaining.
The festival had 5 stages and the one we needed to go to was on the far end. We got there with about 10 minutes to spare before The Sadies started playing. We laid out our fluorescent orange blanket on the ground, far from the stage, so it wasn't too loud for Dex. Some friends of ours met us there. They have 2 kids, a week from being 4-year-old, and a six month old. They also brought along a couple of people we hadn't seen since they moved to New York a few years ago. We seemed to have been sitting in a baby spot as the blanket next to us had a cute red-headed boy of 3 months also enjoying his first concert (even wearing the same shoes!) and both blankets in front of us also had kids under a year old.
It was such a stereotypical thing, the guys all joked around and drank beer and me and the other mom wrangled and fed cranky infants. Mr. Cobra helped quite a bit, so it's not like I was stuck there, but I wasn't able to be very social. (I'm finding it hard to be social when I'm so distracted by Dex all the time.) I'm sure it will get better once he can play by himself more and is in a better mood. It also didn't help that we were at a concert, s hearing what anybody said wasn't easy. Dex didn't really like the bottle I brought because I think the milk may have been too cool. He'd eat a little and then cry, then eat some more and cry. He finally got enough to eat and finally stopped crying after about half an hour. He seemed to enjoy being outside so long as he was on mom's or dad's shoulder and he liked looking at all the people.
After The Sadies were done playing, we went and grabbed some slightly nauseating fried food that wasn't good for us anyways. We started walking home and checked out the newly grown-in Arboretum between the De Young and the science building that's under construction. We then went to 9th St and ate a real, healthy meal at a new-ish restaurant called Bistro 9. It's the second time this week we went there, even though both times we were going there to eat Indian food instead. Bistro 9 is family friendly and has a nice patio and good food. We ordered lunch and then Dex got hungry, so I fed him the rest of the bottle. The food was a little cold by the time I got to eat. Mike burped Dex while I ate. He spit up all over the concrete patio. Then Mike lifted him over his shoulder and poop was coming out of the back of his diaper. (Thank you eco-friendly diaper!) I finished eating and then changed him in the bathroom. They are one of the few restaurants I've seen that actually has a bathroom with a changer in it. I'm sure glad I started packing an extra change of clothes!
Dex cooed and smiled the rest of the walk home. He's so damn adorable, it makes me forget what a pain in the ass he is sometimes. It just takes a little coo and a smile to make my heart melt. He's such a happy kid most of the time. I love watching him and Mr. Cobra play. Dexter loves his daddy and gets so riled up when he talks to him. I like to just stand off to the side and watch them go at it.
The biggest highlight of the day - Mr. Cobra got to use the cup holder in the stroller to hold his beer. I don't know why I find that amusing, but I do.
