Last weekend we went and bought the remaining items we think we'll need for the baby. We got a carseat and a stroller, no-scratch mittens, a bottle warmer, bottle brushes to clean with, baby wipes, a few more breastfeeding supplies for when I get sore, and some diaper rash cream. We ordered a diaper warmer, an organic cotton swaddler, and some bins and baskets to organize his clothes. We finished cleaning out our bedroom closet and made a place for all the baby's things. We washed everything in Dreft and hung up all his tiny little clothes. I made the top drawer of our dresser (right under the changing pad) a diapering supply drawer with all the diapers, lotions and powders. The crib is now empty except for the bag I need to pack for the hospital. The only thing we need now is a moses basket so he can sleep near us on the floor by the bed for the first few weeks.
We are choosing not to co-sleep because we already have Squee the chihuahua in the bed and that could turn into a catastrophe of baby vs dog proportions. Anyone who has had the pleasure of taking care of Squee knows that he thinks he is entitled to the bed and cuddles right up next to you — cute for one person, a bit of dividing furball for couples. He will wake me up in the middle of the night just so he can get under the covers. I don't see how he doesn't suffocate or get rolled over on, but he's a small dog and he's obviously has it figured out. A baby would just be too much in our queen-sized bed and I'd be constantly worried that Squee would lay on the baby like he does us. We'll just have to see how it goes.
