Antenatal Testing @ 34 Weeks

The ultrasound was quick this time, but the fluid is good. I got to see his face and it was all scrunched up with fat little cheeks. I'm pretty sure he's gonna look like a mini-Mr.-Cobra. I also clearly got to see his little hand. He has his legs crossed which explains why I've been feeling (and seeing) his knee in the upper center of my belly a lot. He was breathing pretty well on the ultrasound this time. I didn't have to hold my breath see his ribcage rising and falling this time.

The heart monitoring was 20 minutes of just relaxing and listening to our son's heartbeat. He didn't get hiccups this time. As a matter of fact, he was drowsy and not moving around as much as they wanted him too, so they used a noise maker to wake him up. The noisemaker is an interesting device. It's basically what people use on their larynx to talk when they don't have vocal chords. It's the quintessential smoker with throat cancer device also called an electrolarynx. Someone decided to try it on babies in utero — how weird is that?

When the monitoring first started, his heart rate was around 160 and he fell asleep after a while, so when the nurse came in it was down to about 135-140. Well they put the noisemaker right by his head and it makes a weird loud noise with vibration. The nurse luckily protected my ribs because he did kick pretty good and his heart rate shot up to 190 and was around that for a few minutes before he went back to sleep again. I bet he might have just developed an innate fear of anyone with an electrolarynx device thanks to a nurse scaring the crap out of him.
