After having such a crappy week, Dexter is slowly getting better. After the IV fluids in the emergency room, he's gotten much, much better. He's drinking and eating normally again. He hasn't had any diarrhea or vomiting, but he did manage to share his virus with his dad. Mr. Cobra has been sick for 3 days. It turns out that Pedialyte popsicles work well for adults too. Dexter now just has a cold. Yet another runny nose, coughing kind of cold that he seems to get at least every 3 weeks like clock-work.
I have been giving Dexter lots of cuddles this week. I stayed home from work a few days amidst a firestorm of deadlines. I didn't have a choice because it forced me to prioritize. Dexter is most important - over all the craziness of work. It was a really horrible time for it to happen, but I'm glad it did. I just had to let go and concentrate on getting Dexter better. He started drinking on his own not more than half an hour after I came home because he still wasn't drinking on his own the day after going to the ER.
It is frightening to think what might have happened had I not been so adamant about going back to the doctor that day for a second time. He probably should have had an IV that morning after going 12 hours without a wet diaper, but doctor's tend to be conservative these days. He still had to have an IV and it's probably better that it was when he was weaker and sleepier. It gives me chills to think about the way he looked that night. It was a slow process to get so sick. Once he got some fluid in him, he looked so drastically different in such a short time frame that it made it all the more apparent how sick he was.
I'm very grateful he's getting back to normal, although it is taking a while. His energy level isn't quite back yet. He tires easily, and he's having a difficult time sleeping at night (as mom and dad are too) because of his stuffiness and coughing. He's also lost a little weight. He didn't lose a lot, but I notice him being a little bonier. He's a skinny little baby, so it's doesn't really take much.
I'll have some awesome links to new work to share next week.
