The Holidays are Here!

Dexter sleeps. He sleeps like a "baby" which means through anything. I just finished what I like to call a "tune-up". That means a diaper change and nail trim. Dexter is really hard to change his diaper. When he's asleep it's a snap. It's not that I wait until he's asleep, but this afternoon we were out shopping on Haight Street and he fell asleep while dad was carrying him. He, of course, had a poopy diaper which necessitated a change when we got home. He was also in dire need of a fingernail and toenail trim. It took me about 3 minutes to do all of the above. It was so easy. If he was awake, it would take me 3 minutes just to get his diaper off.

Last weekend, we celebrated gift-giving. Dexter got all the gifts. He was so excited about the bike and the guitar. He kept saying "bike… gar… bike… gar". He was trading off and on between them. It was too much for his brain to process. He got his two favorite things in the whole world, and he was so intensely emotional that it resulted in a day full of tantrums. We eventually had to only have one in the room at a time.

He loved his bike and even though he's still too small, we held it for him to walk around the house. Since then, he's gotten so overwhelmingly excited about it that he throws tantrums about it. He won't get on it anymore. It's so weird. He's warming up to riding it again, but he lays on the floor every time we ask him if he wants to ride it like he's scared out of his mind. He's fine if he just stands by it. He likes to play with the wheels and the handle-bars.

The guitar was great. Mr. Cobra showed him how to hold it correctly and plays it for him. Dexter love his guitar too. Dexter strums it pretty well. He's too little to really "get it" but he'll hold it correctly if you show him. He hasn't broken a string and it's still in one piece. That's pretty good for a 16 month old. He plays with it everyday and likes to hold it and dance to music. It is so adorable.

Finally, our Cobra Winter Holiday is starting off. This past week I had to work every day and night (after Dexter went to sleep) to ensure projects were ready to be handed off for approval, ready for a small hiatus, or handed off for development over the break. It has been an interesting, incredibly tough week for me. I was so busy some days that I was just going from meeting to meeting and not having the time to sit down and concept/design whatever I needed to produce for deadlines. I teared up a couple times because it was just so stressful. I'm designing one project and overseeing that one along with 5 others. We have to change the way our company works because our company is overtaking us.

I feel like I've barely had time to spend with Dexter. That's not really true. I've just been missing my 3-day weekends. Neither I, nor Mr.Cobra, have had a 3 day weekend since October. Almost everyone else at our company has had their weekends with one exception. Next year, things are changing. We have another new person starting and a lot of work lined up. It's hard to complain when so many others are losing their jobs. We just need to make sure that, even though it's our name on the door, it isn't so dependent on us running it that we don't have a life outside of it.

That said, we have some amazing work launching next month. I can't wait to post links. It is tough sometimes, but there's some real fun too. We just had our holiday party at a local steak house. It was the first time we've bought 13 beers and 13 steaks (2 were vegetarian). Dexter ate his first bit of steak and we had a "white cobra" gift exchange. Work hard… play hard!
