All of a sudden Dexter is spouting a ton of new words. Everyday he's adding something new. Today he said "bowl" and answers "baa" for what a sheep sounds like. It's crazy how quickly he's picking up words now. We have a 100 First Words book that has photos of common objects. For some items, I can ask "where is…?" and he'll point to it. He mimics a lot too so he'll repeat a word back (never to be heard again), so I've had to start watching what I say. I dropped the "f" bomb this morning and sure enough he started to say it, but luckily got stuck on the "f" sound. Of course, later that night he said "fu". I'd prefer to think he was saying "fun". The last consonant is optional in Dexter-speak. That's my cover.
He recently went through a growth spurt of eating like a teenage football player and then sleeping a ton. That's inevitably followed with a restless night or two and then he's spouting words and sorting shapes. He didn't grow at all in size, just in development.
He's also now a total daddy's boy - wanting dad more than me more than ever before. He's started this hilarious new game where he straddles dad's stomach and bounces up and down as hard as possible laughing the entire time. I'd upload a video of it, but it just doesn't come across quite right.
Friday we are going to the Academy of Sciences preview. It opens to the public September 27th, but since we are members/donors we get to see it before it opens to the public. I thought it was last Friday. We got there and there was a breakfast event that was obviously for the big donors because they were all dressed up. We walked in and people stared at us like we were aliens with a baby stroller. I had an inkling that I had the date wrong and I peeked at my iPhone to see we were a week early. We made a quick exit followed by chorus of laughter. I wanted to disappear. I can only claim "sleep deprivation" as an excuse for being an airhead for so long. Oh well, this Friday (triple checked), we finally get to take a look at this new San Francisco wonder.
