Tonight when I put him down, there was only silence as I left him to go to sleep in the crib. I was amazed and even a little let down that he didn't cry for me. It's funny how I so wanted to be able to just lay him in his crib to go to sleep by himself. Then when it finally happens, I'm a little sad about it. Fortunately, after 5 minutes he let out 2 short cries and then that was it. It was just enough to let me know he missed me. He's hit a turning point.
Sleeping is getting much better. I only bring him into bed with me if it's after 5am and that's only about half the time that he doesn't spend all night in his crib. He wakes up at night, but now I just let him cry and he goes back to sleep within a minute or so. He has a lovey, a big, soft yellow lion with a hairy mane. Dexter loves to wind his fingers through my hair, so it's nice that his lovey has hair for him to pet instead of mine. He still prefers my hair, but when I lay him down he gabs his lion and cuddles with it.
His separation anxiety is slowly waning. He's been getting much better at the gym daycare. He cries for just a bit as I'm dropping him off. He didn't even cry when I left for work this morning. He just waved bye-bye as I put my coat on. I'm not sure if it's connected to letting him cry at night or not, but he's all of a sudden much more independent. Perhaps it's because he now has 10 teeth! I discovered another molar has poked through. Any day now, the canine tooth next to it will also be poking through to make it a total of 11.
Last Friday, Mr. Cobra and I had a late night out by ourselves. It was probably the first time I've stayed up past midnight in a very long time. We went to see Nine Inch Nails at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. We had General Admission floor tickets and were never more than 30 feet from the stage. It was fantastic! We danced, got drenched from sweat and was crushed by the crowd over and over again. The light show was mesmerizing, a truly creative, innovative show that interacted with the band and had my inner geek going ga-ga. The music was great… for the first half. The middle of the performance was too slow for too long. It lost it's energy and never regained it. They played for a couple hours. It was fun and totally worth it.
On Saturday, it was hot! It was hot all week in San Francisco and Saturday was the grand finale. We filled the baby pool and had some fun. Mr. Cobra even put on his trunks and played in the pool with Dexter. Of course Dex decided it was more fun to run around in the yard half the time. He was in and out of the pool every 2 minutes. We took some good pics though.
On Sunday, we had Dexter's "13-Month Day" because we were away on vacation during his birthday. We decided it would be nice to celebrate with our SF friends and so we had some people over. It was fun and so nice to see everybody. Dexter kept himself busy the whole time and was on his best behavior. He discovered Paloma's hair and they looked like they were dancing at one point. That was hilarious. They took turns riding Dexter's lion with Paloma's dad pushing them around. Ellie also made and appearance, but she's only 8 months so she took in all the sights. Squee made both the babies cry. Henry, unfortunately was sick and couldn't make it. It was fun though and I can't wait for next year!
