Just a Few Quick Stories…

Dexter has achieved a major milestone in his short life. He's gotten really good with his fingers, particularly his index finger. Last weekend he managed to stick his index finger up his nose while we were shopping. YAY! Now he's picking everyone's nose.

We were eating brunch at our favorite restaurant, Bambino's. I decided to try having Dexter eat his own brunch of egg and bits of potato and fruit off of my plate. This worked great. He really liked the egg. (He likes just about everything, so sometimes I wonder whether he even has taste buds.) He's sitting in the high chair being so good. He's just eating, getting scrambled egg all over himself, and playing fairly quietly. The woman at the table next to us starts making faces at him and he flirts back with big smiles and cute babbles. The waitress comes to the table next to us to take their order. She's standing right next to the high chair. Dexter sees the waitress (he really likes her too) and decides he needs to pat her butt. He pats it and smears scrambled egg on her butt. I quickly said "Dexter!" and grabbed his hand while my face turned red. The waitress just smiled and I'm thinking to myself - that's the only time in your life that you're not gonna get slapped for that! :)

To add to this story, we again were eating brunch at a different restaurant (seems to be the only meal out these days) and a very similar thing happened. A waiter was bending over by Dexter and he stuck his hand out to grab the wine bottle opener out of his back pocket. Luckily this time, I anticipated the goosing and got his hand before the waiter got his butt patted or pick-pocketed. WHEW!

While I was at the parent's group last week, Dexter had an interesting reaction to the restaurant owner, Sam. The owner loves babies, and entertains them by dancing and making faces from behind the register. All the babies laugh at him and smile - except Dexter. For whatever reason, Dexter did not like Sam smiling, dancing, and making faces. Dexter got a HUGE frown and started wailing. I tried to turn him around, so he couldn't see. Instead, Dexter craned his neck looking for the evil man to keep his eye on him. He watched Sam intently, ready to cry at the first hint of him cracking a joke. Dexter has stranger anxiety at the oddest times. If people just smile at him, he's fine - outgoing even. If people make funny faces at him, Dexter's head spins around and he screams. No clowns for this baby!
