No not the going "commando" that means he has no underwear on. Dexter is still wearing diapers, but he is getting some forward motion now. They call it the "commando crawl", thus the title of this post. He's on his belly pushing off with his toes and using his arms to move after something he wants. I've seen him do it a few times, but this morning he took in after Squee's ball and moved from one side of the room to the other in less than a minute. He's moving more efficiently with it pretty fast. I first saw him do it at the office about a week ago and he moved about a foot. Today he moved a few feet, turned around, and came back to me. He's using the shag rug to grip and pull on, so I need to put him on some different textures to see what he does. I'm kind of glad he didn't start "cross-crawling" out the gate. That's the type of crawling on all fours that he's been threatening to do for weeks. It's the fastest, most efficient way of crawling. I really do not want to race my 7 month old. We're baby-proofing tomorrow, gates, plug-in covers, cord wrappers, corner covers and all. The boob monkey is on the move!
He's also still teething. Tiny bits of his teeth poked out a couple weeks ago, but the top two teeth are wide and his gums keep swelling over what little tooth made it through. I can't imagine how painful that must be to have teeth going through gums over and over again. He's been so cranky at times lately. He's gotten fevers, diarrhea from swallowing so much saliva, and is even vomiting and spitting up which he hasn't done for months. I thought he might be allergic to the new whole grain cereal I just got, so we're axing the cereal for a bit and just doing food that he's eaten before. I'm pretty sure it's his new teeth though. He has to have Tylenol to sleep or when he gets a fever, but otherwise he's been ok.
Speaking of sleep, he is finally getting back into a groove of sleeping at least one 5-6 hour stretch every night. I'm happy about that, though Im still grabbing him and putting him in the bed with me when he wakes up in the middle of the night. It's such a bad habit. That's usually when he sleeps the best; when he's next to me, but not always. He's still working on the time shift, but he went to bed at 8pm last night. He didn't get up for the day until 8am, so he's still a little confused. I'm glad he slept too much rather than too little though! I keep telling him that we don't wake up until the sun is up.
He's back on the pacifier too, I gave up on weaning him from it when he had his rolling over in his sleep and waking himself up phase. He usually only gets a pacifier at naptime or at bedtime to help him go to sleep. I think it healthy for him to cry a bit, so unless he's so fussy that I'm tearing my hair out, I don't give him a pacifier for any other reason. I know some babies constantly have pacifiers in their mouths, which is perfectly fine for them. It's very soothing to the little critters and sometimes I wish I had brought one with me when he's screaming bloody murder in public. Yeah, I admit, I'm putting one in the diaper bag in case that happens again.
My arthritis seems to have stopped flaring, so I'm ok to nurse Baron von Boobiesucker for longer. I think that once he goes up to 3 meals a day, it will flare again. I probably won't do that for another couple months just for that reason.
