Happy Half Birthday!

Dexter turned 6 months old today! In the midst of an dizzying amount of work, deadlines, network hassles, and opportunities, my little guy turns .5 years old. It's flown by and seems to be just picking up the pace. He's been very active lately. It used to be that I couldn't keep him on his stomach once he figured out how to roll over to his back. Now it's just the opposite. Sometimes he just will not lay on his back no matter how many times I turn him over. He's been standing up a lot on our laps. He loves to stand up and he dances around, hopping up and down.

Last weekend Mike had him sitting on his lap facing me with his legs dangling off Mike's lap. For whatever reason, he decided to lunge for me and actually stood up to a full standing position by himself. It was a fluke (I hope), but he stood completely up before I grabbed him. He was on the couch, so I was afraid he was gong to topple over and fall off. It was an amazing feat for such a little guy. I haven't been encouraging him standing up too much because he's so young. The next morning, I let him stand on the floor while I held his hands and he actually took steps without me doing anything other than holding his hands. I didn't move him forward until he started the motion. It was crazy! I was in awe because I had no idea that he could do that. I thought him just jumping up and down was something he was just doing in our laps, so to put him on floor and have him do that was just fantastic. It's still months away, but to get a little taste of it is just awe-inspiring. He's so strong!

I'm so thankful to have a happy, healthy little boy. He has something new for me everyday - good or bad - there's nothing but complete love and adoration. Being a mom is so awesome, I can't believe I waited so long!
