We got a Baby Björn, so I've been taking him out for walks and he can really look around now. He loves it and he has good enough head control that I can wear him facing forward instead of backwards. He looks like a weird alien sticking out of my torso. He likes to hold his hands up, so I let him hold my fingers. He looks like he's controlling the mommy-robot.
He lights up when he sees people now. He'll give a big grin at whoever smiles at him. He's been doing this fairly often, but now it's almost all the time. He also does this funny cartoon-like head movement. He's so curious to look around and the muscles to turn his head are still maturing. He ends up just swingin' his head to left really fast; then to the right really fast; back to the left; then right again, all in just a few seconds. I swear he's gonna give himself whiplash. He hoots at stuff he sees that he likes. I was at a store yesterday and he just started hooting like a little owl at something he saw. It made me laugh.
Speaking of noises he makes, for the past 4-5 days he's been trying out his lung power. He's been screeching and squealing SO LOUD and so high pitched he could probably break a wine glass. It isn't the occasional squeal either, it's practically constant. He sounds like a pterodactyl. It's hilarious. We shot video of it, so I'm hoping to post it here shortly.
He's also started scooting himself around a little bit while he's on his back. Some babies "crawl" this way. My brother was one of them. My mom said he scooted around so much in an upside-down crawl that he had a bald spot on his head. I hope Dexter isn't an upside-down crawler, but he seems to be moving around a foot at a time this way. He LOVES to kick everything in sight. I gave him a bath last night and he just kicked and kicked. The way the tub is shaped he couldn't kick too much water everywhere, but he was sure trying to splash everything. This morning, when I went to the crib, he'd moved out from under his blanket by about 10 inches. He probably woke himself up doing this because only his legs were covered and he got cold.
Dexter also started to nuzzle. Sometimes I'll be holding him on my shoulder he'll look towards my chest and inch his little face into the crook of my neck and just stay in real close and look around. He did it to his dad first. At first I didn't think it was unusual until he did it to me and the babysitter. It's just the most precious little token of baby fondness.
