Sunday, we went shoe shopping in Union Square on a gorgeous afternoon. Luckily, Mike takes on the difficult job of running over people and playing demolition derby with half the population of San Francisco while I get to watch. Without the huge SUV of a stroller we have, everything might have been okay. I needed a pair of new tennis shoes as I'm ready to get back to the gym. My previous pair of gym shoes are now a half size too small, primarily on my right foot, thanks to getting knocked up and popping up my favorite little baby-boo. I found some I liked after dodging people for a couple hours, waiting for shoes, and trying on 6-7 pairs.
I got some comfy Nike Plus cross-trainers. I just might splurge the $30 to get the shoes to work with our iPod nano. I like gadgets. It seems pretty sweet to me to be able to listen to music and have your shoes tell you how many calories have been burned, distance traveled, and synch to a website that tracks the progress over time. Although, I honestly didn't even know they were that kind of shoe. If Mr. Cobra hadn't pointed it out when I took them off that night, I would've never known.
After Union Square, we decided go to the Japanese Tea in Garden in Golden Gate Park. We sat down, had some tea and started to unwind from the recent hectic craziness of downtown. Dex was awake and he was amusing us by looking around. He stared at a cute little German blonde girl of about 4 years old that was sitting next to us. I thought it was funny how he was amazed by her and she stared right back at him. He also stared at the teapot because it had some brightly colored flowers on it. There was a squirrel that jumped up on the table and stole crackers out of a dish not more than 4 feet from us. We walked around and took some pictures of each other with our iPhones. It was fun, relaxing family time.
Yesterday, I visited Golden Gate Park again. I put on my new shoes to take a long walk (3 hours!) in the fantastic weather. We went to the best place for a baby to visit outdoors other than Muir Woods, the Botanical Gardens. Dex woke up in the stroller just as I got there. I put him in the sling so he could look around. He likes the outdoors a lot. Since he's been grabbing toys for a week or so, I'd gently grab a leaf and put it where he could run his hand across it. He seemed to like that. I showed him all kinds of leaves and flowers. His favorite were these giant velvety leaves of some sort of Mexican tree. He liked the unusual texture. There are so many different kinds of plants and trees there.
Dex was awake for about an hour and a half. I took a ton of photos with my iPhone. We sat on a bench in the shade of a beautiful redwood tree and Dexter went to sleep in the sling. I laid him back in the stroller and walked around some more taking photos. I still wear one pair of my maternity jeans, but they constantly fall down since they've been stretched out by the baby belly that has deflated. I set my iPhone on top of the stroller and pulled them up. Somehow, my iPhone slipped and landed glass first on he sidewalk. I held my breath and picked it up. I've dropped it before and it was fine. This time, however, it had shattered the screen. My heart skipped a beat. I love my iPhone, so I'm bummed. I can't imagine not having one. I use it THAT much. I will get another… I'm addicted.
