Our nanny's great grandmother passed away, so I had to scramble to move meetings around Thursday and get some work done for a deadline. Luckily, Henry's mom was able to look after Dex for a bit while I went to meetings. It was hilarious to watch the two of them play. They both got so hyper and were running around squealing. I'm not sure if Dexter even noticed I was gone. That was the first time they've interacted so much.
Halloween was an eventful day as well. We both had work to do, so we took turns watching Dexter. I didn't have time to change Dexter into his boogie monster costume, so he just wore his Halloween day-wear while trick-or-treating. I didn't even have time to change out of my gym clothes.
We live a few blocks form one the coolest spots in San Francisco for Halloween, Belvedere Street. Every year, they shut down 5-6 blocks of the street to traffic, and thousands of kids come to trick-or-treat. I posted some video of the early crowd we encountered around 5:30. This is the light crowd. It had doubled by the time we left at around 6:30.
Dexter liked seeing all the costumes. He was a little overwhelmed though. We couldn't put him down because there were just too many people. We tried once and he started running down the hill. He was so proud of himself when he grabbed his first piece of candy. He only grabbed a couple pieces of candy because I didn't know what to do with it. Mike and I are still on a diet, and he has eaten a piece of candy for the past 3 days. He's never even had candy until this week.
On our way back home we decided to have dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We've barely eaten out, only 3 times since we started the diet 2 months ago. We settled on sushi as a healthy, diet friendly option. Since it was spur of the moment, I had nothing for Dexter, no bib, no sippy cup, nothing. The bib wasn't too big of a deal, but for some reason he refused to drink with a straw. Instead, he ended up drinking out of a cup and pouring water all over himself. I'm not sure what prompted him to be so insistent on drinking from the cup. I guess he decided if he can grab candy trick-or-treating, then he can drink from cups! He ate toddler-friendly Tamago (egg) nigiri along with tofu and edamame. Mike and I were stuffed after 4 pieces of nigiri. That's about half of what we used to eat. We've both lost 20 lbs. It was a nice dinner and Dexter wasn't too much of pain even though he was cranky. It was nothing like last year.
