Hell Week is Over

I jinxed it. I wrote this post last Saturday. I got a couple nights of decent sleep and thought the teething week from hell was over. It wasn't. Dexter now has a cold. His first yellow snot-filled, nose running like a faucet, coughing, sneezing, keep-mommy-up-all-night kind of cold. On top of the sickness, he's being a hater. I can't calm him down. He screams, throws himself everywhere inevitably banging his head against something. I know that he doesn't feel good, but cuddling, reading, playing, nothing works sometimes. He just screams until something entirely new to him gets his interest. I've been opening new drawers, giving him various kitchenware to play with. Even that doesn't work sometimes. It's like he's possessed. I plan my actions around what is gonna set off my little temper bomb.

It's not all bad, just that when it is — it's stereotypical bad. For example, dragging a screaming baby out of store while he kicks and screams like I'm stealing him, and continues the rage on the sidewalk outside to the extent that passerbys on the street apologize.

So no more complaining, I must focus on the good things. Those are what make it worthwhile. The new cute game of the week is naming facial features. He knows nose, mouth, teeth, ears, fingers and toes. He doesn't always get them, but most of the time he does. Primarily, he likes to point at mom and dad's noses. The only way we've found to get him to stop after a while is to keep poking at his nose too.

The other cute thing is an incessant "uh-oh" whenever something gets dropped, the music stops playing, or he just feels like saying it. He also says "broom" a lot. I gave it back to him to play with, and, thankfully, he just drops it after a few minutes like his other toys. He's starting to scream and point which leaves us to try and interpret what he wants.
