Time to Party

We went to another birthday party last weekend. Our little friend, Paloma, turned one. She also had her birthday twin there, Marcus who happened to be born on the same day. Dexter ate his first carrot cake muffin. He loved it, and ate about half of it in short order. He wasn't so interested in being social though, and just explored and played by himself for the most part. Dexter and Paloma often play together during the week with our nannies watching them, so it's funny to see them point at each other with such familiarity when us moms finally get together.

Paloma let Dexter take home a very cool balloon. It died the next day, after it no longer floated and Dexter was trying to bite it. I had to put it out of its misery before he popped it in his mouth. I almost took it in the other room to pop, but decided it was best if he saw the death of a balloon. I poked it with an ink pen and it let out a sad bang. He made a "I'm gonna scream" face, but just whined for a couple seconds before moving on.

So I finally have links to share as to what I've been furiously working on for the past few months! They both are websites for Clif Bar which is a super yummy snack bar made with mostly organic ingredients (some are entirely organic). They are based in Berkeley and are a small, but environmentally conscious company. The people we work with are a riot. I can't say enough good about them or their company, as challenging they may be to work with at times. We got through it and here are the first web projects I've done since getting back to CC nearly full-time.

How Do You Play? This is an essay contest that's called out on some specially marked packages of Clif Bars. Visitors to the site enter their essay and submit their information. They can read other stories for inspiration on how they played differently. The main inspiration of this promotion is, Gary, founder of Clif Bar, was riding a bike on a 175 mile ride through Napa when he had the "Clif Bar Epiphany" to start a company making wholesome snack bars. To this day, every year, the company has a bicycle ride commemorating this special moment and the winner of the essay contest wins a trip to Napa to participate. We also did a banner campaign that matched this style.

Clif Bar 2 Mile Challenge This is the site I've mostly been working on. It promotes bicycle usage instead of driving to reduce CO2. We had 2 phases of this site. The first was completed about a month ago and is a kiosk installation for a bio-diesel bus traveling to various events across the US. For the second phase, we had to re-work some of the kiosk pieces to be part of the website. To promote bicycle riding with the site, there are 3 main activities: you can build a bike, map your 2 miles, and take the challenge by pledging to ride your bike. It turned out pretty well. I'm happy with it. For the most fun, try building your own bike…
