There was a really great moment though at the petting zoo though. The goats in the pen were the happiest goats I'd ever seen. They actually LIKED to be petted. I stood Dexter next to a couple of them and he was so excited. He just laughed and carried on. He shook the fence so hard I thought it might come loose. He loved the goats! He petted them (nicely) and stood there for at least 10 minutes in sheer delight at watching them.
Dexter is now 9 months old. This month or next, he'll be walking. I think it will be sooner than later because he needs our hands less and less to balance him when we walk him aroundt. He used to take ginormous steps, but now he seems to have gotten the hang of it and takes regular steps. He gets so excited, it's awesome! He's also getting into everything and tearing up our house on a daily basis. I feel a bit like a maid some days.
The weaning is going smoothly. Other than a little engorgement here and there it hasn't been too hard. Dexter took to the bottle pretty well, and only a few times dive-bombed my chest wanting to eat. Now he whines for the bottle. I can't believe I was making that much fluid. He eats 16-24 oz a day! My appetite has finally subsided as well and I don't have to drink 2 glasses of water in the middle of the night. Bottle-feeding is a little easier, but not nearly as convenient because washing 3 bottles and all the various components on top of all the dishes for his meals is a real pain in the ass. Breastfeeding is lean and clean. I'm proud that I was able to nurse him as long as I did. My original goal was just 6 months because I knew my arthritis would flare.
He finally is waving bye-bye again. I'm not sure what happened. When he came down with Roseola last month, he went backward a bit on his development. He stopped saying ma-ma, da-da, and bye. He's finally saying ma-ma again, but not as clearly. He was picking up words left and right and would just randomly bust out a perfect mimic. He still isn't doing that again yet. He's too busy getting around now to worry about communicating. That's my guess.
