Daddy

Mr. Cobra is sick with allergies again. It always starts with allergies that quickly move into an illness much like a cold that won't go away for weeks. It usually happens twice a year and can last anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months like it did last year. I'm lucky that I don't have allergies. I hope that Dexter takes after me, but he has had a runny nose all week with no other symptoms of illness. I'm not sure if allergies to plants and pollen show up in babies this young. I'm crossing my fingers that he hasn't been cursed with the twice a year affliction.

We're spending a ton of time indoors watching Dexter crawl around, stand up, and get into everything. I encourage him to explore. We need to do about 100 times the baby-proofing we have done so far. It's good to follow him around to see just what exactly he's capable of getting into, so I know what I need to get. On one hand, I always keep a close watch on him, but on the other, it only takes a minute of not paying attention for him to get into trouble.

I've been really trying to get him to say "daddy" or "da da" in baby-speak. He says "ma ma" really well, so I wanted him to be equal in calling for his daddy once in a while. Today was the day he really got it. He's said "da da" here and there, but today it clicked and he's said it many times. It was the perfect day too, because Mr. Cobra needed some cheering up.

Then he one-upped himself and picked up "bye-bye" today too. He's been waving pretty well. He's even doing it now without us waving his hand first. I noticed that he's been making "ba ba" noises along with it the past couple days. Today, he very clearly said "bye-bye".

I was going out with Dex to get some food and some medicine for Mike. We did the ritual waving bye-bye and he very clearly said "bye-bye da da". Just like that, he put 2 phrases together. I'm not sure if that makes him super smart, but I got all teary because it was just perfect for him to say that to Mr. Cobra on a day that his daddy felt so poorly. He may have said "ma ma" first, but he said his first sentence to daddy.
