The baby shower was awesome. The only hitch of the day was that both the host and I thought it started at noon. Well… everyone showed up at 11am because that's what the invite said. I MADE the invite. That's how "baby brain" works. I'm glad I have something to blame it on or else I'd just be an idiot.
We ate some really great food that Jess & Simon cooked:
- grilled vegetables with garlic aioli
- grilled chicken sandwiches
- salad with mango-citrus dressing and optional grilled shrimp
- hummus and pita chips
- lemon-poppyseed cupcakes
We played some fun games:
- guess the belly girth of both Mr & Mrs Cobra
- guess the flavor of baby food
- guess the poop (chocolate) in the diaper
- remember all 11 baby items on the tray
We opened fun presents - a lot of stuff we can use. Some breastfeeding supplies, on-the-go changer, bottles, bibs, booties, toys, bat (the animal) towel, books, CD, DVD, baby tub, soaps, powders, lotions, clothes, blankets, burpies, so much cool stuff! Our baby is decked out. We only need a few more necessities before he arrives!
I also had my first antenatal appointment this morning. It was actually really interesting and quite reassuring. First there was an ultrasound and I got to see his tiny little feet. The nurse asked me to hold my breath and we watched the baby's little ribs expand and contract to BREATHE! I told her he was getting the hiccups a lot lately which is caused by uncoordinated breathing. She then measured the amniotic fluid around him. She said normal range was 8-24 cm and we were right in the middle with 16 cm. After the ultrasound, I got to listen to his heartbeat for 20 minutes. Sure enough, about 5 minutes in, he got the hiccups. It was too funny; he had them for about 5 minutes. A nice rhythmic cachunka cachunka cachunka POP cachunka cachunka cachunka POP. The little guy was kicking and punching all over the place too. So far so good and only 47 days left!
